Appeal allowed for winery on the edge of the Peak District

Broadgrove have successfully represented Good Reit Ltd at appeal following the decision of Derbyshire Dales District Council to refuse permission for the erection of a new winery building.

Cuckoostone Vineyard was established in 2017 to diversify the rural business operations on site. The site’s geographical position, orientation and topography make it ideal for the growing of grapes and over 1,800 vines were planted to produce grapes for the production of British wine. The addition of a wine processing and storage facility will allow the operator to produce and bottle wines on site rather than having to transport to wineries elsewhere.

In granting the appeal the inspector noted found no merit in the council’s argument the development would be an encroachment on the open countryside and considered that the building and access would not result in any harm to the character and appearance of the landscape.
