Broadgrove, on behalf of clients Witherslack Group, have secured approval at Planning Committee for a new Vocational Training Centre (Class F1 (a)) at Unit 11, Cottage Leap, Rugby. When opened, the Centre will support pupils from the West Midlands Region with Special Educational Needs as they prepare for post-educational life.
Set within the established Butler’s Leap Industrial Estate, the existing unit had previously benefitted from a Class E (g) (iii) Industrial Processes permission. Conflict with parts of Policy ED1, which affords protection to employment land in Rugby, was overcome by sequentially assessing other unsuitable sites around the Borough. The need for the Centre, which will operate in conjunction with the existing, at-capacity Avon Park School, also weighed in favour of the proposals.
Internal and external works to convert the site will commence as soon as relevant planning conditions have been discharged, with opening planned shortly after.
