Project Description

Broadgrove are providing ongoing planning advice to EXA Infrastructure supporting the delivery of a new strategic fibre optic route between London and Dublin.

The project forms part of EXA Infrastructure’s wider telecommunications network and will provide a new communications corridor between the United Kingdom and Ireland, with onward connections to mainland Europe and North America.

A series of In-Line Amplifier (ILA) sites are required along the terrestrial route between London and Abergele to maintain signal performances across the fibre network. The location of each site is determined by specific engineering and operational requirements, including the required spacing between ILA sites, proximity to the existing fibre route and access to suitable power infrastructure.

Broadgrove have successfully secured planning permissions for ILA sites in Abergele and Tattenhall, and continue to advise on further sites in Albrighton, Rugby and Milton Keynes.

The projects involve the coordination of multidisciplinary consultant teams, alongside addressing a range of planning and environmental considerations, including Green Belt, Landscape, Ecology, Drainage, Highways and site-specific infrastructure constraints.
